UPS is a company that delivers goods all over the nation. There headquarters is located in Atlanta, GA. UPS delivers about 12 million packages a day.
There was a strike that caused alot of things to go wrong and to stop things normal productions caused by the UPS company. UPS went on strike because the workers we frustrated with the company's refusal to have more full time jobs, end contracting and boost wages. Some of the striking workers in NYC and Boston became violent, Which was breaking the Landrum Griffin Act. During the strike the Teamsters had control. The Teamsters represent the UPS drivers. Ronald Carey was at the time the president of the Teamsters during the strike. The strike benefited tons of other delivery companies but it mostly benefited RPS. RPS is a company invented after UPS was that also delivered anywhere in the US and in Canada. RPS is a scare to UPS. They can deliver almost as much as UPS can with competitive prices.
The southern Florida area was unable to ship their oranges around to make money due to the strike, which caused transportation to stop. They lost millions of dollars. Tons of people vacation there which is a good source of where their money comes from along with the citrus making.
I do believe that the workers had a right to go on strike, however i do not believe they had the right to be so violent. I think they should have thought about how they were affecting the community around them and the people that were depending on them. I think that the UPS workers did get some of what they wanted but not all. I do not believe that either of them won the strike i think that they compromised and got what they wanted that way, or at least almost everything that they wanted. I think things would have been much better and less of a hassle if the management would have listened to what the workers wanted in the first place. I do think it would make sense to have full time jobs, i don't understand why that would be that big of a problem. UPS workers did benefit from this strike. They got a little bit of a raise, and they made a new contract, however another big issue that led to the strike was the part time job issue that did not get resolved.
